Midweek Randoms

Happy Wednesday! I’m linking up with Megan from In This Wonderful Life for a mid-week brain dump! Ha! Below are some random thoughts/happenings.

  • Yum-have you tried this cookie butter from Trader Joe’s? It has the most interesting taste but is absolutely delicious! I have made several desserts with cookie butter but I prefer to just eat it on a spoon! It is a good substitute for peanut butter when making desserts. I found another type of cookie butter spread at our local grocery store, but it’s not nearly as good as Trader Joe’s (but I am slightly addicted to that store!).

  • This is my first week back to school. Ugh. My least favorite part of preparing for the work day is packing lunches. I loved summertime when I didn’t have to pack my lunch and breakfast and lunch for my kids. To save time, I always pack our breakfasts and lunches the night before. I like to sleep in as much as possible during the school year. Unfortunately, that still means I have to wake up around 5:45am to be out the door by 6:50 in order to drop the kids off and make it to school between 7:30-40.
  • Hopefully we will get more into a routine as the school year goes on. Since it’s only day three of back to school, it’s been difficult adjusting to not sleeping in, not spending all day with the kiddos, etc. I really miss my time with my kids. By the time I get home from school and pick them up, it’s time for dinner, a little play time, then baths, story time, and bed. Ideally, I would like to work part-time, but that’s not feasible. I do LOVE that I have the summers off. I can’t imagine having a job where I worked year round. One big advantage to being a teacher!
  • Fall consignment sale #2 is coming up in about a month, so I need to start re-tagging the items that I didn’t sell at the first sale. I sold about 125 out of 200 items at the first sale and made a good amount of money. This second sale is much smaller but is still worth it. I plan on discounting most of the items so they will sell. If they don’t, I might donate some of the items and hang onto some of the nicer items. In the spring, both consignment sales are the same weekend, which doesn’t work well for those of us who sell at both sales. Last year, I sold at both sales but am probably just going to do the bigger sale this time.

  • Still soaking up as much summer/outdoor time as we can. Here’s Will attempting to blow bubbles last night.

  • I have been searching for a chalkboard picture or printable to use for Will’s first day/last day of preschool. I found a neat chalkboard sign on Etsy (one of my favorite sites!) that I might get. Yes, I’m going to be one of those parents who gets a picture of their first day of/last day of school until they’ve graduated high school, ha!
  • Speaking of pictures, I’m trying to go through and delete some of the thousands (literally) of photos I have on our computer. Every once in a while we will get a message saying that our hard drive is almost full, so I go and delete some pics. I’m really bad about not deleting not good pics off my camera. I tend to just upload everything onto the computer and go through the pictures at a later point. I really need to find a better way to organize/sort through all my pictures.
  • Shutterfly recently had a coupon code for a free 8×8 photo book (you just pay shipping). I need to get started on the photo book before it expires! It’s just hard to find the time, especially now that I’m back to work!

Midweek Randoms!

Happy Wednesday! I’m linking up again with Megan from In This Wonderful LIfe for Midweek Randoms!

~I love how you can do small, inexpensive touches in your home.  I recently bought a new rug for our back door at a great price from Kohls.  It looks so, so much better than the old, faded rug we had!

~Last night, we went to our community’s National Night Out.  Will had lots of fun looking at the fire trucks, police cars, and medical helicopter.  He was able to get several of the vehicles, which he thought was pretty cool!  Miss H. just walked around held daddy’s hand.  She was most interested in the cats and dogs that were up for adoption.

~Will’s photo book arrived! It turned out very well! I can’t wait to share it with his grandparents:)  My goal this fall/winter is to put together a family photo yearbook from 2004-2010 (when we got married up to the birth of our son).  Then I will be all caught up with photo books until March when Miss H. will turn two (oh my!!).

~We are spending our last few days of summer going to the park, getting haircuts, and playing outside!  This summer went by WAY TOO fast! It just seemed like it was the end of the school year:(  I finished my last work day on Monday, so I’m going to enjoy the last few days before school starts on the 12th.

~We had the best time last weekend with my family!  My brother and his family flew in from Colorado to visit, so we headed home to my parents to see everyone.  Harper and Will played nonstop with their cousins, who are five and two and a half.  Our time was spent playing outside, catching fireflies, swimming, playing in the sandbox, riding a train, eating yummy food outdoors, picking vegetables in the garden and just hanging out and visiting.  I plan to post about our trip at a later point.

Midweek Randoms

I’m linking up with Megan for midweek randoms! I love these link-ups because it’s an easy way to share my random thoughts/happenings in our life:) I will have to see how working full time and blogging goes. Right now, I’m able to write several posts a week, but that will have to slow down once I go back to school.

~Lil Miss is such a climber. Recently, she has been into climbing onto the dining room chairs and then up on the table. She also climbed onto our neighbor’s picnic table yesterday evening. Will was not nearly as adventurous as Miss H. is (at least, I don’t remember him being such a risk-taker!)! Notice only one shoe on-she decided it was fun to run and dance around like that!

~We are soaking up every last day of summer and are filling our time with friends, family, mini adventures, playing at the park, and storytime. I’m really going to miss spending fun days with my kiddos once work starts:(

~This week, my husband’s company had a “bring your kids to work” afternoon. Since Will and Harper were too young to participate, the company invited all of the younger kiddos to join in after work for ice cream and a tour of an airplane. Will wanted to stay in the plane and “drive it,” ha! A future pilot in the family, maybe?

~I am in search of ways to display my instagram prints. Lately, I have been using instagram A LOT (it’s just so more convenient to snap a pic quickly on my phone rather than lugging my big camera with me) and want to get some printed. I’ve never gotten any of them in prints before (I have included them in my kids’ photo books but haven’t gotten actual prints). Any suggestions on where to have them printed? And good ideas for displaying them? I guess I need to look on Pinterest!!

~Two and a half summer work days down, a half day to go! I worked a half day Monday and a full day yesterday at school.

~In thinking ahead to fall, I might get crafty and make some sort of wreath for our front door. I just need to check out Pinterest for something very easy. I’m not the craftiest person, ha!

~Over the weekend, I made a delicious and easy skillet lasagna that I mentioned in this post. Yesterday, I came across a one pot chicken spaghetti dish that looks as easy and yummy. I might try it out soon! Speaking of food, I’m going to make the Pioneer Woman’s peanut butter pie to share with our family this weekend. If you like peanut butter, you need to try it! It is so delicious!

~The other day while I was driving down a neighboring road, I came across this vegetable stand set up at a farmhouse. I noticed that they had corn, so I pulled into the driveway. I bought several ears of corn for .25 each and some tomatoes and cucumbers. It was on an honor system-you just put your money in the red container. So fun!

Midweek Randoms:)

I’m linking up with Megan at In This Wonderful Life for Midweek Randoms!

My kids go through so many of these squeezable applesauce packets. I’m thinking of investing in the reusable squeeze packets. It would save me tons of money and would be more eco-friendly. Has anyone tried the squooshi? Is there a specific brand you recommend?

Miss H turned 16 months the other day…oh my, where has time gone?! It’s also very hard to believe that my son will be going to preschool two mornings a week in the fall! Before I know it, he will be in kindergarten!

We are trying to fit in as much summer fun and activities as we can before school starts. My brother and his family will be visiting our parents in a few weeks and we plan on spending some time with them. They live in Colorado, so Harper and Will only get to see their cousins once a year. We’re planning several day trips to a scenic railroad and to a park for swimming and picnicking.

Today is our ninth wedding anniversary:) We’ve been together for thirteen years! Wow, I’m feeling old, ha!

These mini peanut butter cups from Trader Joe’s are addictive! My husband and I are mildly obsessed with Trader Joe’s. if you haven’t been before, you need to check it out! A Trader Joe’s opened up last fall about 45 minutes from us and we frequent it! I might have to do a post on my favorite products from TJ’s sometime!

I’m trying to find new and healthy recipes for my kids (and me) for breakfast. I might try some baked oatmeal or some healthy veggie muffins. We are getting tired of eating the same thing for breakfast! Any suggestions? I’m also trying to plan ahead for back to school. I pack breakfast and lunch for Will and Harper each day. I let them sleep as late as possible on school days, which means they eat breakfast at their babysitter’s.

Midweek Randoms!

I’m linking up with Megan from In This Wonderful Life for my first midweek randoms. Love her blog!!

1~I made these delicious copycat Wendy’s frosties from One Good Thing By Jillee. We’ve had frosty night with our neighbors twice this summer. So easy and they taste just like a real frosty!
2~I’m loving summer but secretly can’t wait until fall, my favorite season:) I love all things pumpkin and like wearing sweaters and scarves while enjoying the beautiful fall leaves and crisp weather. However, it means I will be back at work and not home with my kiddos.
3~Speaking of work, summer is more than halfway over:( I go back to work on August 12th. Boo.
4~We met my husband for lunch today. It is getting VERY difficult to go out to eat with an on the move almost sixteen month old and a three year old! We had a good time but had to eat fast!!
5~I picked up a few fall tops and leggings for Harper this morning at a consignment store. I found some good deals:)
6~Love watching my babies sleep!
