{planes // and other summer happenings}

Here’s what we’ve been up to lately…

My husband’s company reserved a bunch of tickets at a local theater to see Planes: Fire and Rescue last Saturday, so we took both kiddos to see it (my hubby works for an aviation company).  Free movies-yahoo! It was a cute movie, but Harper and Will were ready to get up and move about halfway into it. It didn’t help that the movie was right in the middle of nap times, so they both skipped naps that day. 20140727-143555-52555993.jpg

Harper and Will love craft projects, so we’ve been doing lots of crafts lately. 20140727-143556-52556728.jpg

Last week, we headed to Barnes and Noble for story time. It was our first time going to the bookstore for story time since it’s about a 30 minute drive for us. However, we wanted to go see the special story time guest, Madeline!

Plus, the kids just had to play with the train set at the bookstore! Will loves trains and plays for long periods of time in our bonus room creating new tracks. 20140727-143557-52557086.jpg

Outside rock playing time. All they need is a dump truck and rocks, and they will play for a while!20140727-143558-52558285.jpg

We’re squeezing in as much summertime fun in the next few weeks before school starts!

{cousin fun!}

Last week, I headed home to WV with Will and Harper to visit my in-laws and my brother-in-law and his family, who were in from Kentucky for a few days. My husband had to work, so I made the close to 2 hour drive by myself (the first time I have driven home with both kiddos by myself-usually my hubby comes with me). It wasn’t a bad drive at all-we didn’t have to stop either way!

My mother-in-law (Mimi) wanted to get some professional pictures of her four grandchildren, so this was the perfect time! She wanted to do a red, white, and blue color theme since it was close to July 4th. I wasn’t sure what my nieces would be wearing so I brought an assortment of mostly white and blue clothes for Harper and Will (they don’t have many articles of clothing that are red!).

My nieces, V, who is six, and E, who is four, were dressed in the cutest skirts! They matched really well with Will and Harper’s outfits!

Luckily, the photo shoot took only ten minutes! Harper was not in the mood for pics after being in the car for almost two hours. The pics turned out cute-though they are studio pictures, which are not my cup of tea at all. I prefer more natural pictures outdoors and not so posed. Anyway, I will order a print of all four kiddos for my photo gallery wall at home.

This was after the photo shoot-I tried to snap a few pics of the cousins together.  The kids were all pictured-out but I got some fun shots of them playing.

I’m able to get more photos of Harper since Will is constantly on the move-that child never stops!

 Enjoying popsicles after a yummy dinner of grilled chicken and salad.  Mimi made blueberry cobbler, so the adults enjoyed cobbler a la mode while the kiddos had popsicles.

IMG_6594After dinner, I gave the kids a chance to play outside for a while. Then I gave them baths and we loaded up to head back home. Luckily, they slept most of the way and went right to bed at 9 when we arrived home.

We had a blast playing and visiting with our cousins:)

{summer happenings // thoughts for thursday}

Hello! Happy Thursday! I’m linking up with Annie and Natalie for thoughts for thursday.

Here are some scenes from our busy but super fun summer!

{one} Enjoying frozen yogurt after one of our park adventures!
{two} Eating snack on the porch.  Will and Harper think it’s so cool to have snack outside:) It’s the simple things…
{three} Helping daddy water the plants.
{four} Running around outside.
{five} Opening a fun summer package from their great aunt.  I love to get surprises in the mail, and the kiddos were super excited to see that their great aunt sent them some chalk, crayons and coloring books, and other goodies for summer!
{six} Playing dress up outdoors with our neighbors.
{seven} Playing at the local library after story time.
{eight} A yummy peach and black raspberry cobbler! Love this fruit combo!
We are packing in as much fun as we can this summer! I can’t believe it’s already July. It’s flying by too fast!!

Summer Bucket List

Hello! I’m linking up with Jenny from The Chronicles of We, Courtney from Sweet Turtle Soup and several other bloggers for their fun summer bucket list link-up!

Since it’s summer, we’ve been spending lots of time at our local parks.  There are several parks within 20 minutes of our home and we like to explore all of them.  This particular park is lots of fun and the way it is set up, it makes it easy for me to watch Will when he explores on the bigger park set while Harper runs around the smaller play set.

This girl is very cautious about going down slides.  She refuses to go down any slide at the park but will go down the slide on our neighbor’s play set. Harper just likes to climb up and down the steps and swing.  She would swing all day if I let her, ha!

Mr. Adventurer!

For comparison (since I love taking pictures of Will and Harper doing similar activities each year to see how much they’ve grown and changed!):

Summer 2014

Summer 2013-look how much smaller they both look!

Swinging! I think Will’s a little too big for this swing!

“Come on, Harper, let’s go see the ducks”

At the park, there’s a fun bridge that we like to go on. There’s a great view of the river and of the ducks.  Harper was actually very resistant about going across the bridge. She kept looking down and was scared that you could see straight down to the water.

“Up, Mommy”

The view from the bridge…

Will pretending to feed the ducks.

“Look at the ducks, Mommy!”

Now it’s time to explore more parks this summer!

{weekend happenings}

What a fun weekend! My in-laws (Mimi and Grandaddy) came on Friday morning and spent part of the weekend with us! Will is always so excited when anyone spends the night because that means he gets to “camp out” in the bonus room (our play area) while our guests sleep in his room.

They brought us yummy homemade desserts (both with from scratch crusts!)-fudge pie and rhubarb pie (this happened to be rhubarb from my parents’ garden) and three bags of blueberries from a local farm.

When they arrived on Friday, they took Will and Harper to a nearby park so I could have some “quiet time.”  It gave me the chance to organize our bonus room closet and sort items for a consignment sale and items to donate.

Fresh blueberries! All three bags are all gone! My kids eat these like candy!

Playing with Mimi’s phone and tablet. On Friday evening, they took the kids out to dinner while my husband and I went out for a nice, relaxing dinner sans kiddos.  We went to one of our favorite restaurants in town and had a great time! We called this our Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and birthday celebration all combined into one for us, ha! The last time we went on a “date” was back in December.

On Saturday, I made breakfast and we headed out the door to our local farmer’s market.

I gave Will the task of selecting some green beans for us.

Petting the dogs at the market.

We love to walk across an old bridge and up to a seating area that has great views of the town.  Will and Harper ran around for a while, splashing in puddles and burning off some energy!

A trip downtown is never complete without a visit to Pufferbellies, our favorite toy store!IMG_5442

For lunch, we headed to a local pizza place for a quick bite to eat.  Harper was having a meltdown and refused to sit in her high chair for lunch.  Will was getting tired as well, so as soon as we were finished, we headed home for naps.

After naps, we played more with Mimi and Grandaddy and enjoyed a yummy beer can chicken and grilled vegetables for dinner.  The kids were sad when Mimi and Grandaddy had to leave that evening.  We had a blast! Happy summertime:)

Summer Fun!

Summer is here! We’re only a few days into our official summer vacation (aka mommy’s out of school for the summer) but we’ve already had tons of fun in the past couple of weeks.  Here are some of the fun things we’ve been doing…

5 on Friday!

Happy Friday! Today is my last Friday work day until August! Yay! I’m so glad school is almost out! I’m linking up with Darci and friends for 5 on Friday!

{one} I went to a friend’s baby shower last weekend and had a great time! I love going to baby showers…they’re so much fun! For this particular shower, they requested a book instead of a card. I love this idea! I chose Corduroy, one of my kiddos’ favorite books. It was so fun to see the great collection of books she has for her soon to arrive newborn son.

{two} Lemonade pie! I love this refreshing summer pie! We were invited to our friends’ last week for dinner and to celebrate their daughter’s college graduation.  I love to make desserts any time we are invited to a friend’s home, so I gave the new graduate a choice of desserts. She chose this yummy lemonade pie! Here’s the recipe: blend together 3/4 cup thawed lemonade concentrate, 8 ounces softened cream cheese, and one can of sweetened condensed milk.  Fold in 8 ounces whipped topping and put in a graham cracker crust (which I made from scratch-really easy).  Refrigerate for several hours before enjoying.  My husband suggested that I make this pie next time with a raspberry lemonade concentrate.  I’m going to have to try that…it sounds really good!20140603-204003-74403344.jpg

{three} I’m loving these beverage dispensers from Target! They seem to be really popular this summer. I think I may have to get one…right now, I use a pitcher for iced tea and lemonade when we have parties, but these are really nice! 20140603-204003-74403024.jpg

{four} My little gardeners! My mom gave us some tomato and pepper plants (she has a greenhouse and grows lots of vegetables and flowers) a few weeks ago and the kiddos have been helping me water them.  We finally planted them earlier this week and hope to grow some nice vegetables. 20140603-204206-74526879.jpg

{five} Our friend who graduated from college made this beautiful crocheted blanket for Harper’s 2nd birthday.  She told us a while back that she was in the process of making a gift for Harper but hadn’t finished it yet. When we celebrated her graduation last week, she gave this blanket to Harper.  I love it! So pretty and meaningful! She also made a pretty yellow blanket for Will when he was born.  20140603-210720-76040200.jpgI hope you have a wonderful weekend!
