5 on Friday!

Happy Friday! I’m linking up with Natasha and friends for 5 on Friday:)

{one} Spring blooms! I’m loving this weather and the gorgeous flowers that are popping up around us! School is almost over and summer will be here! Yay!

{two} Water Wows-these are really fun no-mess paint with water coloring pads from Melissa and Doug.  You fill the pen up with water and “paint” on the scenes.  The color magically appears and dries so you can color the pictures over and over again.  We enjoy these coloring pads in the car as well…it’s a fun travel activity.  20140519-220546-79546437.jpg

{three} Making pb and honey sandwiches! Will has really been big into helping me in the kitchen lately and was thrilled when I told him he could make his own peanut butter and honey sandwich for his field trip this week.  We typically eat leftovers for lunch (even the kiddos…I pack them leftovers and they have hot lunches every day at the babysitter) so it’s rare that we have bread in the house.  We just aren’t big sandwich eaters.  However, my husband and Will went on a field trip this week (see picture below) and I needed to make sandwiches for them.  Now Will has been asking for a peanut butter sandwich all the time, ha!20140519-220546-79546014.jpg

{four} I was unable to go on Will’s field trip this week due to conflicts with school, so my husband went.  He texted me pictures throughout the morning of Will and his preschool friends having their field day, which was so fun!  For this field trip, they headed to a local park and set up stations with a variety of games and activities.  They also had a picnic lunch.  My husband told me that Will was so shy and clung to him most of the time.  Here’s a picture of his class (he’s in the green striped shirt). 20140520-211422-76462841.jpg

{five} Essential oils-do you use them? I’ve been reading more and more about them on blogs and am curious about them.  I picked up some orange essential oil from a local store the other week and plan on making a bug spray that’s safe for kiddos.  I just haven’t gotten around to making it yet, ha! I’m sure it will be one of my weekly Pinterest project posts:)20140520-212306-76986165.jpg

I hope you all have a super weekend!

5 on Friday!

Hello! I’m linking up with Darci and friends for 5 on Friday!

{one} Matching daddy and son:) I snapped this pic last Sunday after we got back from church and just love how they match! Speaking of matching clothes, I always try to have Will and Harper in coordinating outfits.  Not necessarily matching, but in similar colors.  Does anyone else do this?  Every night when I’m picking out their clothes, I make sure their outfits go well together.

{two} Starbucks is having their frappuccino happy hour until tomorrow, May 10th. From 3-5pm, you can get frappuccinos for half price! Such a great deal! I haven’t had a frappuccino in a while but had to take advantage of this deal with a mocha cookie crumble frappuccino! Yum!

{three} It’s almost water table time! Will and Harper have been begging me to get the water table out but it hasn’t been warm enough consistently.  I finally broke down and got it out from our crawl space (well, actually my husband got it out) and put it on our porch.  We’ve been waiting for warmer weather so that we can fill it up with water and play in it.

{four} I’m loving the spring blooms! I took this picture the other evening when we took a walk to see our neighbor’s horse and donkey.  Pretty apple blossoms!

{five} Anthropologie…they have some really cute stuff for your home.  I love these latte bowls! However, my kitchen is almost at capacity and I don’t have much more room for anything new.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Wagon Ride // It’s the Little Things

Hello! I’m linking up with Jess and Ashley for “It’s the Little Things.”

The other evening, the kiddos and I decided to take a wagon ride to our neighbor’s house to see Shadow and Isaac.  Our neighbors leave treats in their horse trailer for us to feed to Shadow, their horse, and Isaac, their donkey.  Shadow and Isaac love it when we visit! They come running over to the fence, ready for a treat. We really like walking down our neighbor’s driveway since there’s no traffic and the kiddos are able to walk without holding our hand.

I pulled out our dusty wagon and headed off with Will and Harper to visit our animal friends (my husband was mowing the lawn; otherwise, he typically comes with us).  Will and Harper rode in the wagon most of the way, but after a while, Will ran ahead to greet the animals and Harper wanted to pull the wagon.

On the way back,Will helped pull Harper a little.

I even hopped in the wagon with Harper while Will pulled us for about ten feet, ha! He said, “Mommy, the wagon’s too heavy.”

I’m enjoying these fun springtime activities with my kiddos! (And yes, Harper insisted on taking her play cell phone with us!)

Cupcakes and Cracker Barrel

Here’s a quick recap of our fun weekend!

On Thursday, Will turned four! He helped me make cupcakes for his preschool class and was so excited when he came home from school with a special birthday crown made by his preschool teacher.

Yummy cupcakes!

For Will’s birthday dinner, we gave him the choice of eating out at Panera, Cracker Barrel, or Chick-Fil-A. All day long he was set on going to Panera (which I was very excited about!) but after coming home from Nana’s, he had changed his mind and decided on Cracker Barrel.  The kids love going to Cracker Barrel and playing checkers:) Now Will is giving Mommy and Daddy three restaurants for us to choose from for our birthdays! Our birthdays are coming up within the next month, and I do have to say, he has given us some good choices for places to eat! I love this boy!

On Saturday morning, we headed downtown to the farmer’s market (our first visit of the year).  Before the farmer’s market, however, we stopped at a little bakery that makes the most delicious donuts.  I’m really picky about donuts and don’t like the store-bought kind.  I shared a donut with the kiddos and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

I had been wanting to stop at a fairly new eclectic shop downtown and finally got the chance.  It’s a fun shop full of all sorts of goodies…jewelry, candles, party supplies, etc.  If you’re looking for random items for a Pinterest project, this is the place to go!

We walked around the farmer’s market and enjoyed looking at the beautiful flowers and fresh spring produce.

Of course, no trip downtown is complete without  a visit to our local toy store, Pufferbellies.

And taking a ride on Sandy:)

On Sunday, we went to church, made our Trader Joe’s shopping trip, and played outside a bunch! I hope your weekend was super, too!

5 on Friday!

Happy Friday! I’m linking up with Christina and several others for 5 on Friday! We’re off enjoying our two days of spring break.  Since we had so many snow days this year, three of our spring break days were taken away. Despite that, I’m enjoying every moment with my kiddos and husband.

{one} Will had spring preschool pictures a few weeks ago.  He was so excited since it was a duck photo session and he was able to choose a duckling to hold.  He chose a little black duckling…so adorable! Even though I prefer to get digital copies of prints (the particular photographer they used only offered prints), I ordered a small package of prints to give to our family.

{two} Spring clothes!  Pretty soon, Miss Harper will be too big to wear the adorable Carter’s baby/toddler clothing.  Carter’s makes some of my favorite baby outfits, so when I found these spring sets at Kohl’s, I just had to get them! I had a coupon, plus all Carter’s clothes were on sale.  Yay! (And yes, my 2 year old still fits into 24 month clothes…she’s very petite!)

{three} Ramps! Any time I mention ramps, people give me a confused look.  Do you know what ramps are?  I grew up in Appalachia and my dad would go out in the woods in search of ramps each spring.  They are also called spring onions or wild leeks and are very strong tasting-kind of like a mixture between onions and garlic.  My mom sautés them up with a little olive oil.  Some people eat them raw, but they are way too strong that way.  Will and Harper took a bite but didn’t like them at all.

{four} We took the kiddos to a new playground last week.  It’s just several minutes from our house and has two play areas for the kiddos.  Will and Harper loved it!

{five} This picture is blurry, but I captured it the other evening in the car driving home. Harper was asleep and Will reached out to hold her hand.  Of course, he only held it for a minute and I had to rush to get this picture.  So sweet!  I love seeing how much they care for each other and love playing with each other.

I hope you have a wonderful Friday:)

5 on Friday!

Happy Friday! I’m linking up with Christina and several other bloggers for 5 on Friday:)

{one} Spring is here! I’m loving the beautiful flowers that are popping up outside in our flower gardens. I picked a few daffodils the other day and put them in a pretty blue mason jar.  They  smell wonderful!

{two} Iced vanilla coffee!  Hmm….I’m seeing a mason jar trend here, ha! It’s just all the mason jars from Harper’s second birthday party.  I only like my coffee with a lot of milk and some sugar (and not much coffee!).  Also leftover from Harper’s birthday are those adorable pink chevron straws. I love how fun they make my iced coffee look (but I don’t like that they eventually get soggy-boo).

{three} I hate taking pictures of myself (and especially if there are no kids in the picture), but I snapped this last week before heading to work. I’m loving maxi skirts this spring! So comfy and cute! So far, I have this blue and white striped one and a gray one.  I’m looking to add more to my collection.  Any recommendations on where to purchase another one?

{four} Playing outside in the sand! We’re soaking up all the nice weather this week!

{five} Last week at school, we had a fun career fair day. As part of it, every teacher contributes food for a yummy lunch for the staff as well as the presenters. I opted to make a super easy chocolate trifle with layers of Ghirardelli brownies, chocolate pudding, and whipped topping.  It was delicious!

Edited-I have had several requests to share this recipe, so here it is!

Chocolate trifle

1 package brownie mix

1 (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix

1/2 c water

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed

1 (12 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed

1 (1.5 oz) bar chocolate candy (I actually used 3 Heath bars).

Prepare brownie mix according to package directions and cool completely.  Cut into 1 inch squares.  In a large bowl, combine pudding mix, water, and sweetened condensed milk.  Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces whipped topping.

In a trifle bowl, layer half of the brownies, half of the pudding mixture, and half of the 12 ounces frozen whipped topping.  Repeat layers.  Chop candy bar and sprinkle onto top layer.  Refrigerate 8 hours before serving.

I hope y’all have a fabulous Friday and weekend! I’m at school for a half day and then have a reading training in the afternoon.  It should be fun!

Weekend Fun!

What a fun weekend! Here’s a quick recap of what we did:)

Spent lots of time outside enjoying the warm weather: picking flowers for mommy, digging in the rocks, running down the yard, playing in the sandbox, swinging on the swing set and much more!

Checking out our local book fair that occurs several times a year. It’s a huge book sale with great prices and a good selection of books. We primarily checked out the kids’ book section and came home with five board books for under $15 (including two new Sandra Boynton books, one of our favorite authors)!

Reading our new books.

On Saturday evening, we headed to a local (kid friendly) California style Mexican restaurant.  This is one of Will and Harper’s favorite restaurant (yay for mommy and daddy!), primarily because of the doodle pads for the kiddos and the yummy queso and chips.

After dinner, we took a stroll around town.  The kiddos love walking up the hill by the train station and across this cool bridge!

On our walk, we always have to peek into the quilt shop window and say hi to the cat that lives there:)

A little Saturday evening grocery shopping-how exciting, ha! I usually go shopping on the weekends with Will and my husband stays home with Harper. However, since we were out and about, we decided to go to the grocery store. I gave in and let the kiddos “drive.”  I know they love it, but, really, it’s hard to steer those carts!

On Sunday, we visited a new church (which we liked), hung out at home and read books, and played outside.

On Sunday afternoon, our music class had a year-end celebration for family members. Since I always take Will and Harper to their music class, we wanted to bring along Daddy so he could see what we do. We had a short music class with Ms. Sarah and enjoyed visiting with our music class friends and eating snacks.  Fun!

Enjoying our Sunday afternoon outside!

Baths, then snack time before bed.

Have a great week:)
