Sheep Shearing and Sickness

On Saturday, I took Harper and Will to Nana’s (our babysitter) to watch Nana’s brother shear sheep.  They have over 400 sheep and spent most of the day shearing them.  Will and Harper were so excited to watch the sheep “get a hair cut!” I love that my kids get to spend time on a farm.  Nana’s parents, Maw and Grandaddy, live right next to Nana and own a farm.  They live in a cool old farmhouse and have several horses, plenty of barn cats, sheep, chickens, and cattle.  Nana’s brother, who basically runs the farm, lives on the other side of Maw and Grandaddy.

After watching the sheep shearing for a little and wandering around the farm, checking out the seven newborn kittens in the barn and petting the horses, we popped in to Maw’s house to say hi.  Will and Harper walk to Maw’s house a few times a week to visit.  Her house is full of fun, old toys from when my neighbor and her brother were little (my neighbor’s mom is Nana).  On their visits to Maw’s, they usually go to the horse barn to visit the animals.  Love, love, love that they get this opportunity to be on a farm and to become close to Nana and her husband (who we consider Will and Harper’s third set of grandparents) as well as Maw and Grandaddy.  So much can be learned from this wonderful generation of people!

On Sunday, Will woke up with a fever:( We had planned on going to church and to a lunch, but those plans were cancelled.  We stayed at home all day and chilled.  I took Harper to the doctor earlier in the week and found out she had a respiratory virus.  Will ended up getting it this morning.  No fun…but at least it was the weekend and I didn’t have to go to work.  I spent extra cuddle times with Will and Harper today:)

I hope y’all had a great weekend!

Cupcakes and Cracker Barrel

Here’s a quick recap of our fun weekend!

On Thursday, Will turned four! He helped me make cupcakes for his preschool class and was so excited when he came home from school with a special birthday crown made by his preschool teacher.

For Will’s birthday dinner, we gave him the choice of eating out at Panera, Cracker Barrel, or Chick-Fil-A. All day long he was set on going to Panera (which I was very excited about!) but after coming home from Nana’s, he had changed his mind and decided on Cracker Barrel.  The kids love going to Cracker Barrel and playing checkers:) Now Will is giving Mommy and Daddy three restaurants for us to choose from for our birthdays! Our birthdays are coming up within the next month, and I do have to say, he has given us some good choices for places to eat! I love this boy!

On Saturday morning, we headed downtown to the farmer’s market (our first visit of the year).  Before the farmer’s market, however, we stopped at a little bakery that makes the most delicious donuts.  I’m really picky about donuts and don’t like the store-bought kind.  I shared a donut with the kiddos and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

I had been wanting to stop at a fairly new eclectic shop downtown and finally got the chance.  It’s a fun shop full of all sorts of goodies…jewelry, candles, party supplies, etc.  If you’re looking for random items for a Pinterest project, this is the place to go!

We walked around the farmer’s market and enjoyed looking at the beautiful flowers and fresh spring produce.

Of course, no trip downtown is complete without  a visit to our local toy store, Pufferbellies.

On Sunday, we went to church, made our Trader Joe’s shopping trip, and played outside a bunch! I hope your weekend was super, too!

Weekend Fun!

What a fun weekend! Here’s a quick recap of what we did:)

Spent lots of time outside enjoying the warm weather: picking flowers for mommy, digging in the rocks, running down the yard, playing in the sandbox, swinging on the swing set and much more!

Checking out our local book fair that occurs several times a year. It’s a huge book sale with great prices and a good selection of books. We primarily checked out the kids’ book section and came home with five board books for under $15 (including two new Sandra Boynton books, one of our favorite authors)!

Reading our new books.

On Saturday evening, we headed to a local (kid friendly) California style Mexican restaurant.  This is one of Will and Harper’s favorite restaurant (yay for mommy and daddy!), primarily because of the doodle pads for the kiddos and the yummy queso and chips.

After dinner, we took a stroll around town.  The kiddos love walking up the hill by the train station and across this cool bridge!

On our walk, we always have to peek into the quilt shop window and say hi to the cat that lives there:)

A little Saturday evening grocery shopping-how exciting, ha! I usually go shopping on the weekends with Will and my husband stays home with Harper. However, since we were out and about, we decided to go to the grocery store. I gave in and let the kiddos “drive.”  I know they love it, but, really, it’s hard to steer those carts!

On Sunday, we visited a new church (which we liked), hung out at home and read books, and played outside.

On Sunday afternoon, our music class had a year-end celebration for family members. Since I always take Will and Harper to their music class, we wanted to bring along Daddy so he could see what we do. We had a short music class with Ms. Sarah and enjoyed visiting with our music class friends and eating snacks.  Fun!
